NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (WBAP/KLIF) – U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos met with students and teachers from Birdville ISD and Dallas ISD, Thursday. The Secretary also hosted round table discussions with urban specialists and school administrators.
DeVos stepped inside a robotics classroom and operated a student designed robot. She also met with an aerospace engineering class and a culinary class. Students and teachers said it was important that the secretary saw what they do on a daily basis.
“I think it’s good that she can experience what the students experience and see what we’re doing every day,” said Birdville ISD Superintendent, Darrell Brown.
The visits in Dallas and North Richland Hills weren’t met without protest as activist groups and parents voiced their opposition for DeVos’ policies.
“She’s taking money away from public education by taking away vouchers and cutting funds for special education,” said one concerned mother.
The Secretary plans to meet with students across the country in the near future.
