Surprise Primary Upset for McLenann County DA at the Center of Biker Shootout Prosecutions

Abel Reyna

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas prosecutor pursuing charges against more than a hundred bikers in cases stemming from a fatal 2015 shootout involving bikers and police was ousted by voters in a primary election after failing to convict anyone for the killings. Local bikers rallied around Barry Johnson, McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna’s Republican opponent and a personal injury lawyer with no criminal law experience.

CentexProud.com reports on Johnson’s reaction

“The fact that we were able to win this race against an incumbent, it just hasn’t sunk in yet,” Johnson says.

Johnson says the win in the Primary Election was “shocking“.

Reyna responding by saying, “I’m at peace with it. That’s the will of the people.”  Johnson (pictured below left) faces Independent Daniel Hare in November.

Meantime, supporters said of Johnson after a campaingn debate:

Barry Johnson is going to raise the Bar in McLennan County,  this  “he ain’t from here shit”  stops now.  Are you all out of your minds?

Barry Johnson kicked ass,  got in Abel’s shit,  got spittin’ mad,  had Reyna loom behind him and get spittin’ mad too.  Johnson just kept coming,  Reyna dodged any and all questions and acted decidedly indignant, which fell flat.”
