DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Select Dallas ISD students will compete in the “Cooking Up Change” competition for a chance to win a trip to Washington D.C. for the national competition in June.
More than a dozen teams from five high schools are involved according to the district’s Brittany Frew.
“These are schools that have culinary programs independently of the competition. So, they do everything from culinary skills, to life skills, throughout the year. This is just one of the competitions that they compete in,” she said.
The goal is to create healthy and delicious schools meals that their peers will enjoy on a tight budget of $1 per meal. It’s a constraint DISD said schools deal with every day.
Some meals are added to the district’s menu.
The event will take place at the Art Institute of Dallas Culinary Institute on Friday at 10 a.m.
