GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Garland employment attorney running for the Texas House apparently upset one of her childhood heroes.
Democratic Candidate Brandy Chambers told WFAA TV she emailed a photo of herself and William Shatner as a way for them to get to know her better.
Shatner, who is well known as Captain Kirk from Star Trek and for being apolitical in the real world, got wind of the photo and responded to her on Twitter.
He said the move implies an endorsement, and wrote “which will never happen.”
“I felt gut punched. Oh my God, Captain Kirk’s mad at me? That kind of reaction….What?” said Chambers.
The exchange led to a series of spiteful comments toward Chambers, which she replied to, telling one Shatner fan “Sorry, you don’t stand for women’s rights and education.”
“I apologized for that. I was very upset after receiving a few hundred hateful replies and emails,” said Chambers.
She said she didn’t intend for it to imply Shatner’s endorsement.
The photo has been removed from her website.
