A Texas political group may have been caught up in the Russian election meddling.

Undated (WBAP/KLIF) – According to the federal indictment of 13 Russians who reportedly were at the heart of the attempt to influence the American presidential election in 2016, Russian government agents posing as U.S. citizens communicated with an American who was “affiliated with a Texas-based grassroots organization.” The indictment from the grand jury empanelled by Special Counsel Robert Mueller doesn’t identify that American, and doesn’t identify the Texas group. It does say they assisted the scheme whether they knew it at the time, or not. The Russians reportedly learned from the unnamed American that they would have better results if they focused their efforts on so-called purple states such as Colorado, Florida, and Virginia. So they did.

The indictment also says the Russians worked to spread derogatory information about Texas Senator Ted Cruz while he was running against Donald Trump in the 2016 Republican primary.
