DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas County is planning on bringing in an outside law firm to investigate its policies on how it’s Human Resources Department handles sexual misconduct allegations against county employees.
The investigation was prompted by sexual abuse and harassment accusations against former Dallas County Health Director Zach Thompson, who was fired after the allegations surfaced.
The woman’s attorney is calling for policy change and threatening a lawsuit against the county for how it handled the investigation.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said its the best way to have transparency during the investigation.
“By bringing in an external person that would put a fresh set of eyes on it. A group of people who do nothing but HR,” he said.
In an age where sexual harassment has become a part of the national conversation, Jenkins said its important for the county to make any necessary policy changes regarding this type of behavior in the workplace.
“Many people have come up and shared their own stories with me that I had not heard before including very close members of my family. My own wife, my mother, my sister….shared incidents that have happened to them,” he said.
Jenkins said the investigation will reveal whether or not the county failed to protect Thompson’s accuser from the alleged abuse.
