Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas County Health Department has confirmed 7 new flu-related deaths; of the new cases 6 victims were from Dallas and one from Garland.
In a release from DCHHS this morning officials said all of the new cases were among high risk patients.
“Older adults, individuals with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, young children and infants are more vulnerable to flu illness,” said Dr. Christopher Perkins, DCHHS health authority/medical director. “With influenza activity on the rise, individuals in these groups should take special precaution as we continue throughout the season.”
Meantime, with DISD students returning to school today from winter break, extra precaution is being taking to prevent an outbreak in schools. Officials are urging parents to keep kids home if they’re showing flu-like symptons.
Health officials warn that in close quarters like classrooms, germs spread quickly. One of the best preventatives is to wash hands thoroughly and often with hot soapy water.
