Richardson Community Plans Bench Dedication for Sherin Mathews

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Richardson community continues to show love and support for Sherin Mathews, the 3-year-old girl who vanished in October and was later found dead in a culvert.

Shanna Poteet, administrator of the Facebook page Love & Justice for Sherin, said residents have organized a bench dedication and memorial service for her.

“Basically, it’s just all of the people who have gotten together and created this memorial and dedicated this bench for Sherin,” she said.

The ceremony is being held at the Restland Funeral Home on Saturday December 30th at 3 p.m.

After the service, Poteet said the group will release doves in addition to the bench dedication.

Meanwhile, Sherin’s adoptive parents Wesley and Sini Mathews remain in jail on charges related to her death.

The couple is expected to appear in court for a custody hearing next Wednesday where a judge is expected to officially terminate their parental rights to their biological daughter.

“If they don’t give up their parental rights which they most likely won’t then the judge is going to rule whether their rights should be terminated,” said a child advocate who goes by the name of ‘Shan’.

Earlier this month, a judge ruled that the couple were not allowed to have any contact with the girl. She remains with relatives in Houston.
