(WBAP/KLIF) – Parents are able to use a mobile application this Halloween to identify where sex offenders live before taking their kids to trick or treat.
The Texas Department of Public Safety’s app lets parents find out which houses to avoid by simply typing in their location under the sex offender link.
“Once the app is downloaded you click on a link that says sex offender link,” said State Trooper Lonny Haschel. “Click on near me and it uses your global positioning to show where the registered sex offenders live in that particular neighborhood.”
The app can be downloaded on smart phones or tablets.
“We really encourage parents to take advantage of that and be safe this evening,” Trooper Haschel said.
DPS is also encouraging motorists to use extra caution when traveling through neighborhoods with rain in the North Texas forecast.
