State Rep. Wants To Get Rid of Texas Film Commission

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – State Representative Matt Shaheen has announced he will be introducing a bill which looks to get rid of the Texas Film Commission.

In a statement released to WBAP/KLIF Shaheen stated, ”Over the past week, our nation has grown increasingly alarmed over allegations of rampant sexual abuse by Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and others in the motion picture and TV industry…I have always believed that this is an inappropriate use of taxpayer dollars, and given the apparent culture of sexual exploitation of women in Hollywood, it is now even more clear that we should not be wasting taxpayer money on this industry.”

In the recent weeks the Hollywood giant has been accused of sexual assault and in some cases rape.

Shaheen plans to file the piece of legislation during the upcoming 86th Legislative Session.

The Texas Film Commision has been around since 1971 and works to get films and other media platforms produced in the state.
