Texas State Fair to Raise Money for Hurricane Harvey Victims

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Big Tex was put in his annual spot at Fair Park on Friday and he’s sporting a new patch to honor Hurricane Harvey victims and raise some much needed relief funds.

The patch reads “Texas Strong” and will be sold as a button throughout the Fair this year, with proceeds going toward relief efforts.

The Fair’s Karissa Condoianis said it’s the least they could do.

“We had 2.4 million people come out here last year. So, we have printed 100 thousand of these buttons in human size, not as big as what Big Tex is wearing but you can purchase a Texas Strong button at any of our State Fair of Texas official merchandise  on the grounds,” she said.

Condoianis said the Fair is for all Texas residents whether it is to bring joy or help out in times of need.

“We’re the State Fair of Texas, we’re here to support our entire state. It’s devastating what has happened down in Houston and the Gulf Coast and all the areas down there. This is just one small way that we can try to help give back,” she said.

The buttons cost $2. The State Fair opens next Friday, September 29th.
