ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – An Arlington woman whose family is at the center of a viral arrest video is fighting eviction.
Latasha Nelson said the Addison Park apartment complex is evicting her over the arrest of her two sons stemming from an alleged car burglary.
Nelson shot cell phone video as an Arlington police officer took her 14-year-old into custody last week.
When she asked the officer, identified as Chad Haning, where he was taking her son, the officer didn’t respond.
During the incident, her 16-year-old son is seen in the video being taken to the ground by the officer for allegedly brushing against him.
The boys were eventually released. Police said they’re still investigating and will pursue charges.
Nelson said she found the eviction notice on her door after she had wrapped up a meeting with police at the department.
Nelson’s attorney Kim Cole said the family did not break the complex’s rules because the kids were not charged with a felony.
“She has no where to go. She’s not from here. She’s not from the state of Texas. There’s no reason in voluntarily making her five children homeless,” she said.
Nelson said she’s afraid of the unknown.
“Not knowing what’s going to happen. It’s pretty much not knowing where to go but we’re trying to make arrangements,” she said.
The complex has not responded but said it will start the process to evict Nelson if she does not move out by midnight Friday morning.
