SAN ANTONIO (WBAP/KLIF News) – Governor Greg Abbott formally announced his campaign for re-election Friday afternoon.
Abbott spoke in San Antonio and touted his accomplishments so far in his first term.
He told a cheering crowd that he kept his campaign promises such as passing the toughest border security law in the country and passing state laws banning so-called sanctuary cities.
The law allows police ask about a person’s immigration status during routine traffic stops.
“To keep Texas the very best state in the United States, I am running for re-election for governor of the great state of Texas,” he said.
Abbott asked for the crowd’s support and told them he’s in the midst of creating a movement.
“I am a fighter and you are too and we are in the process of building the largest grassroots army in the history of Texas,” he said.
Today marks the fourth anniversary of When Abbott announced his intentions on running in the 2014 race.
He went on to defeat State Senator Wendy Davis of Fort Worth.
