DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas citizens met with seven candidates for Police Chief Tuesday night at Dallas City Hall.
The meet and greet was part of a three day interview process. Longtime Dallas Resident Sandra Crenshaw said she thinks the next Dallas Police Chief should come from within the department.
“I think you need to know a little bit about the inside groundwork,” said Crenshaw. “A lot of landmines and potholes that you could fall into.”
Three of the candidates work for the department. The others come from departments across the country.
Dallas Deputy Police Chief, Malik Aziz is up for the job. He said believes the department is in need of a new brand of leadership.
“I think it’s time for a Chief here who can truly embrace the community and lead the office at the same time,” said Aziz. “I don’t think we’ve had that in a long time.”
Detroit Deputy Police Chief Renee Hall said she’s not intimidated by women historically being left out of leadership roles in law enforcement.
“This job has not been defined as a man’s job,” said Hall. “Historically Police work was defined as a man’s job, but so were so many profession throughout the world.”
The candidates will now interview with the city manager’s office.
