Missing Boater’s Body Recovered from White Rock Lake

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The body of a missing boater has been recovered from White Rock Lake.

According to Dallas Police, 80-year-old Conrad Callicoatte was teaching another person to sail when a gust of wind capsized the sailboat. Both Callicoatte and the other sailor fell into the water. A boat nearby rescued the woman with Callicoatte but before they could get to him he slipped under the water and could not be found.

“He was in the water for a while and was fine,” said Robert Hunt with the White Rock Boat Club. Then about the time they were picking him up he slipped under the water and sunk. People went in after him but couldn’t recover him.”

The Texas Game Warden and dive teams extensively searched for Callicoatte until he was found not far from where he went under water.

“They found him about 150 yards from where he initially was lost,” said Hunt.

Callicoatte had more than 40 years of sailing experience.

“He’s owned large boats that he’s sailed up and down the Gulf of Mexico, as well as chartering boats all over the world,” said Hunt. “I’d say he’s our most experienced sailor”.

The medical examiners office has not yet determined a cause of death.
