Texas Game Warden Encouraging Extra Safety for Boaters This Weekend

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The Texas Game Warden is encouraging boaters to take extra safety measures this holiday weekend.

Game Warden Jeff Powell says Memorial Day Weekend is one of the busiest lake weekends of the year, and that they want to make sure Texans avoid making it a tragic one.

“We’re trying to prevent drownings,” Powell says. “This is one of the three most dangerous weekends when we have to worry about drownings.”

He says it’s important to keep an eye on your kids at all times and to make sure everybody is wearing a life jacket when the boat is moving.

Powell also wants to remind those going out on the water that driving a boat under the influence is just as dangerous, with equally strong consequences, as drunk driving in a car.

“Besides Labor Day and the Fourth of July, this is probably one of the most busiest weekends we’re going to have all year long,” Powell says.
