A Former Ellis County Police Chief Accused of Sexually Assaulting Underage Girl is on Trial

ELLIS COUNTY  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The second day of testimony will resume Wednesday morning in the trial of former Maypearl Police Chief Kevin Coffey.

He’s accused of sexual misconduct with underage girls.

Coffey is charged with indecency with a child and sexual assault on a child in connection with an alleged relationship he had with a 14-year-old girl while he served as the city’s police chief.

The victim testified that Coffey allegedly made uncomfortable sexual advances towards her and sent her lewd messages via text and social media.

Prosecutors told jurors that a Texas Ranger’s investigation into her claims led to another victim Coffey allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with.

That victim testified that the alleged relationship was consensual but that she now feels betrayed by Coffee.

Coffee pleaded not guilty to both counts Tuesday morning. He’s facing similar charges in Johnson and Hill Counties.
