George W. Bush Presidential Library Accepting Applications for “Camp 43”

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The George W. Bush Presidential Library is accepting applications for its “Camp 43: Leader of One, Leader of Many.”

The three-day camp will let expose high school juniors, seniors and college freshman to lively discussions, group activities and presentations from prominent and successful community and government leaders.

The library’s Sharon Brannon said participants will be taught important lessons that can be useful beyond the classroom.

“The skills and leadership that they develop and learn will really help them as they go into their next year of school but also their private lives,” she said.

The camp will be held June 21-23, 2017 and it’s got a limited amount of space. Brannon said the candidates will go through a rigorous application process.

“Through the process of the short essays…the recommendation letters…we’re able to go through a ruberick and pull out the information that we need to choose the 25 students that will be a part of the camp,” she said.

The camp focuses on leadership and the decision-making process, which Brannon said are key qualities that can put students on the path to success. She said it’s a lot of information for many to take in.

“We want to make sure the students that apply that they realize the seriousness of the camp. Because its so short but it’s so much information. We want to make sure that we are ascertaining not just leaders for tomorrow but leaders for today,” she said.

The camp is free and students will be treated to a formal dinner on June 23 to mark the end of the experience.

Completed and signed applications must be received by the close of business on April 14, 2017.
