Two Construction Workers Injured in Overnight Hit and Run

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Two construction workers were seriously injured after they were hit by a drunk driver Wednesday night. It happened around 11 p.m. on I-35 near Inwood Road.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department’s Melinda Urbina said the driver, Juan Faz Reyna, allegedly sped off after the crash.

She said he didn’t get far because his car gave out less than a mile from the accident.

“It would be safe to say that it probably became disabled after he struck these two individuals. He probably wasn’t able to operate his vehicle for that much longer,” said Urbina.

She said the accident is a grim reminder of why scorpion trucks are need on road construction sites.

“If a vehicle approaches a scorpion truck and the scorpion truck is set up like a shield…if it strikes the scorpion truck, the truck will absorb a lot of that impact and it protects construction workers,” she said.

Reyna is charged with two counts of intoxication assault.
