The University of North Texas Dallas Law School Gets Another Chance to Earn Accreditation

university-of-north-texasDallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – After months of uncertainty, the University of North Texas Dallas Law School is getting a second chance at earning its accreditation.

The American Bar Association’s decision comes after a bar committee recommended in August that the school not receive preliminary accreditation.

It’s a decision which would have prevented students who graduated from the two-year-old program from taking the bar exam, which is a requirement need to practice law in the state.

The committee, which cited lenient admissions policies as one of the reasons not to accredit the school, has decided to re-review the program.

Dean Royal Furgeson said a final decision about the school’s accreditation could come as early as June and the first class of graduates is scheduled to take the bar exam in July.

The school plans to ask the Texas Supreme Court to allow the testing despite the students having a degree from a non-accredited school.
