Situational Awareness at the Polls

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Threats of Election Day violence have led schools in some states to close if they’re serving as polling locations.

School districts we’ve talked with in the Metroplex aren’t planning any closures, saying they will have school resource officers at all polling places to ensure the safety of voters, students, staff and faculty.

While violence at any polling place in the Metroplex is unlikely, former Navy SEAL and security expert Clint Bruce, with the Trident Response Group, says make sure you’re aware of what’s going on around you.

“The things you look at at the election stations are the same things you should look at when you’re filling up at the gas station, or standing in line for a movie,” said Bruce.  “Significantly different behavior than those around you, and all the other things that would cause you to say ‘hey, that just doesn’t look right’.”

So are the threats real, or are they just another attempt by terrorist groups to change our daily lives?  Bruce said we can’t afford to not take them seriously, but don’t let the threat of violence keep you from voting.  He said just have your head on a swivel, and be ready to react if something happens.
