Bullard (WBAP/KLIF News) – Authorities believe Gustavo Zavala-Garcia is responsible for 10-year-old Kayla Gomez-Orozco’s death. He is being detained on a federal immigration hold at the Smith County Jail.

Kayla’s body was found in a well near a family member’s home in Bullard just south of Tyler early Sunday morning. Investigators said she was still in the clothes she was last seen in when fire crews recovered her body.

A motive in her death has not been released. Law enforcement from multiple agencies, family and volunteers had been searching tirelessly for Kayla since she disappeared last week. She was last seen Tuesday evening at the Bullard First Assembly Church.kayla-gomez-i

After investigators announced that Kayla’s body had been found, the Tyler Independent School District released this statement.

“We are saddened to learn that the body of Kayla Gomez-Orozco, the Jack Elementary school student who has been missing since Tuesday, Nov. 1, has been found.  Our hearts and sympathies go out to Kayla’s family and friends as they come to terms with this painful and
senseless tragedy.  We ask that you keep the students and staff at Jack Elementary School in your thoughts and prayers. Additional counselors from throughout the District will be at the Jack campus next week to provide assistance and support as needed for staff and students.”

Hundreds of people showed up for a candlelight vigil for Kayla and her family in Bullard Sunday night.
