Testimony Continues in The Trial of a Frisco Teen Who Allegedly Confessed to Parents’ Murder

callens-trialFrisco (WBAP/KLIF News) – Testimony will continue today in the trial of a Frisco teenager who allegedly admitted to killing his parents. Zachary Callens is accused of shooting his parents, Ray and Marie Elena Callens, to death on August 11, 2014 as they slept in their home.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Zachary Callens’ sister, Sydney Callens, testified on Tuesday that she heard shots and three screams from her mother that night. She told jurors she saw Zachary on the stairs as he removed ear protectors and questioned him about what had occurred.

She also said she saw a rifle with a small flashlight attached to it at the base of the stairs, and then found her father lying in a pool of blood in the doorway of the master bedroom. She testified that her brother had admitted to killing his parents.

Collin County prosecutors cited the parents’ discipline tactics and the threat of sending Zachary to public school as a motive for the murder. Sydney testified that she did not think her parents disciplined Zachary any different from herself or her other siblings.

A judge certified Zachary Callens, who was 16 at the time of the murders, to be tried as an adult. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
