AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas has surpassed the one million mark for open carry permit holders.
From December of last year through February of 2016 the Department of Public Safety received more than 136,000 applications for permits, which used to be called “concealed carry”. That compares to just 57,000 applications one year ago.
The consensus from gun store owners statewide seems to be that the number is up due to a rise in crimes against persons, things like robbery and assault.
Texas comes in at number two in state’s where permits are issued. Florida is number one.
