“Some of my friends are among those who are fallen,” said one man, a West Point graduate attending the closing ceremony of Carry The Load at Reverchon Park. “I just think it’s important to remember that where we’re at is because of what they did for us.”
Another veteran said there’s more to Memorial Day than just a day off for some people. “It means honoring America, and remembering days like today for those who have died for our freedom.”
A few thousand people gathered at Reverchon Park for the end of the relays, one of which started in Boston, the other in Seattle. Carry the load was started to honor members of the military, as well as law enforcement and first responders who die serving their country and communities.
