FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Fort Worth Zoo has launched a campaign to name it’s newest addition…a male baby gorilla born December 5th…the first gorilla ever born at the Fort Worth Zoo. The Zoo’s Avery Elander says they received more than 500 name submissions and now they’d like the public to choose from the four finalist.
Augustus or “Gus” — meaning great, magnificent
Crockett — after the Texas hero, Davy Crockett
Grover — following the sesame street theme like his father, Elmo
Mosi (moh-see) — the Swahili name for “first born”
You can cast your vote on twitter with the hash tag #fortworthzoonamethegorilla in your Tweet, on the Zoo’s Facebook page or by paper ballot at the Zoo’s primate exhibit. Elander says so far the favorite name seems to be Grover. Voting continues thru March 9th and the winner will be announced March 10th.
