(WBAP/KLIF) – ALLEN, TX – Earlier this month, the Allen City Council passed an ordinance that bans public sleeping on streets, parking lots, walkways, and at office buildings and apartment buildings. Violating the ban is a misdemeanor, and carries a fine of up to 500 dollars after the first offence. Homeless advocates argue that the ban unfairly punishes the people without a home instead of getting them the help that they need.

The city of McKinney has issued a similar ordinance making it a crime for people to sleep, lie, or sit on a public sidewalk, street, or median.
