California Governor Says Trump is Sending 300 California National Guard Members to Oregon

PORTLAND, OREGON – OCTOBER 04: Federal agents, including members of the Department of Homeland Security, the Border Patrol, and police, clash with protesters outside a downtown U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on October 04, 2025 in Portland, Oregon. The facility has become a focal point of nightly protests against the Trump administration and his announcement that he will be sending National Guard troops into Portland. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom says the Trump administration is sending 300 California National Guard members to Oregon. That comes after a judge temporarily blocked the administration from deploying the Oregon National Guard to Portland. Newsom pledged Sunday to fight the move in court. The Democrat said California personnel were on their way Sunday and called the deployment “a breathtaking abuse of the law and power.” There was no immediate official announcement from Washington that the California guard was being sent to Oregon, as was the case when Illinois’ governor made a similar announcement Saturday about troops in his state being activated.
