
MIAMI – (WBAP/KLIF) – Reports just in announce a guilty verdict has been reached by the jury in the trial of Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused through federal charges of plotting to assassinate President Donald Trump as he played golf at his Mar A Lago estate in Florida in 2024. Routh was found guilty on all five counts of attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
The jury began deliberations today/Tuesday, with the jury sending a note to the judge requesting a review of the SKS sniper rifle and ammunition presented at the trial as evidence. The weapon was described by firearms experts as a WWII-era rifle with an oblliterated serial number, allegedly aimed at a Secret Service agent duringa perimeter sweep near the golf course’s sixth hole.
Routh represented himself at the trial, and questioned witnsses about the weapon’s range and forensic evidence linking him to the scene. FBI experts testified DNA found on the rifle, backpack and other items strongly matched Routh.
A sentencing date has yet to be announced.
