(WBAP/KLIF) – McKINNEY – TX – The new passenger terminal is bringing commercial air travel to McKinney for the first time, and giving Collin County residents a closer option than DFW Airport or Love Field. Since voters rejected a $200 million dollar bond last year, the new passenger terminal will be funded through sales tax, grants, and development funds. The $72 million dollar terminal will be equipped with four gates, parking, and rental car counters, and if everything stays on schedule commercial flights could start taking off in 2026.

Avelo Airlines has signed a letter of intent to fly out of McKinney National Airport, and is planning up to 3 daily 7-37 flights once the terminal opens. Officials with the airline expect demand to triple within a few years.
