PRINCETON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A North Texas community is rallying around the family of a Princeton mother who was found dead in a car in Missouri hours after a fire erupted at her home on Friday.
The Princeton Police Department said officers and firefighters responded to a fire at 30-year-old Delisha Evans’ home on Winding Meadow Trail around 7:30 a.m..
First responders on the scene were told by family members that Evans was missing. Authorities immediately began looking for her and named her estranged boyfriend Ryan Phillips as the suspect.
In the department’s initial press release, police believed Evans was in “imminent danger” and entered her name into the state and national databases as a missing person.
Hours later, Missouri Highway Patrol caught up with Phillips, who was killed in a shootout with troopers following a car chase. Evans’ body was found in the vehicle.
Longtime friend Irica Jackson told our media partner WFAA TV, Delisha left behind two young children.
“I don’t care what I have to do. I want to be there for them girls for the rest of their lives. Because DeDe was that type of person and I know she would do it for mine,” she said.
On Sunday night, dozens of people gathered in Princeton for a balloon release to honor Evans’ life.
There’s a GoFundMe campaign to help the family pay for funeral expenses and for the Evans’ young daughters.
