AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Embattled Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s long-delayed trial on securities fraud charges from 2015 takes center stage in a Houston courtroom on Thursday.

Paxton is accused of failing to register as a securities adviser and allegedly convincing two investors to buy some 100-thousand dollars in stock for a tech company without disclosing that he would be paid for it. he faces two to ten years in prison if convicted.

Amid several venue changes since 2015, Paxton lost a bid earlier this year to return the case to friendly territory in Collin County.

The latest development comes amid Paxton’s upcoming impeachment trial which is slated to begin in Austin early next month.

It remains unclear if the judge in the seurities fraud case will set a trial date.
