Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Issues Gag Order Ahead of Ken Paxton’s Impeachment Trial

Austin, TX (WBAP/KLFI) – Acting as judge for the upcoming impeachment trial of currently suspended state AG Ken Paxton,Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on Monday issued a wide-ranging gag order.

The order bans attorneys, legislative members and staff from making any comments about the trial.

Patrick cited recent comments from Paxton’s attorney’s who have called the process an “evil weaponization of power”… and, one of the Texas House attorneys who called Paxton a “crook,” calling the statements “particularly egregious” that “pose a serious and imminent threat to the impartiality of the trial” which begins Sept. 5.

The order went into effect immediately. Violators can be found in contempt of court and punished with up to six months in jail.
