(WBAP/KLIF) — A North Texas city passes a motion to help a community heal. The Fort Worth City Council heard comments, Tuesday night, from citizens in regards to renaming Hillside Community Center in honor of Atatiana Jefferson.

The motion to rename the center drew comments from both sides of the issue during the public comment section of the meeting. At one point, Mayor Mattie Parker even encouraged the council to gather more public input before making a decision and table the issue until the next council meeting.

However, councilman Chris Nettles amended the resolution to rename the facility “Atatiana Carr Jefferson at Hillside Community Center”, with special signage to be established on the building’s interior to honor the history of Hillside.

The Fort Worth City Council voted to pass the measure in honor of the slain woman.
