Athena Strand’s Father takes Legal Action

WISE COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF) – The father of the Wise County girl abducted and killed last month near Paradise is suing.

According to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, contracted fed-ex driver Tanner Horner admitted to killing Athena strand and dumping her body miles away from her home in Paradise.

The lawsuit filed this week by Athena’s father Jacob claims Dallas-based Big Top Spin and FedEx breached the duty of care in what it calls the “negligent hiring” of Horner. The lawsuit claims there should’ve have been more attention paid to Horner’s criminal and mental history, and prior employment. Horner is also named in the suit.

Matt Howerton, with our media partner WFAA-TV, shared details of the lawsuit on Wednesday.

Attorneys representing strand’s mother have said they too may take legal action.
