Damage Assessment Underway after Severe Weather Hammers North Texas

GRAPEVINE (WBAP/KLIF) – Damage assessments are underway across North Texas after a string of widespread storms ripped through the region Tuesday morning.

Damage was first reported south of Decatur in Wise County, before the storms moved into the DFW metroplex.

The City of North Richland Hills reported about 20 houses and businesses with damage. That number could rise.

“The preliminary line of damage spans approximately two miles from around Smithfield/Starnes northeast to Precinct Line/North Tarrant. Fire station one reported seeing rotation just south of the station as well as hearing a continuous rumble sound when the second Tornado Warning was activated,” a statement from the City of North Richland Hills read.

A possible tornado touched down near HWY 114 and SH 26 in Grapevine. The Wal Mart and Sam’s Club stores in that area suffered damage and were closed for the rest of the day.

“It was really loud and then it got quiet,” said a Tarrant County resident. “I didn’t really know what happened until a few minutes later when I walked outside.”

The National Weather Service said late Tuesday that it could take field teams a few days to confirm any tornadoes because of how widespread the storms were.
