DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Accused North Texas serial killer Billy Chemirmir will face his second trial in Dallas County on Monday.
He’s charged with capital murder in the death of 87-year-old Mary Brooks, who was found dead on the floor of her condo.
Authorities initially believed she died of natural causes but later reconsidered.
Dallas county prosecutors believe the 49-year-old stalked and killed at least 22 elderly women and stole their jewelry.
Investigators believe he stalked victims living at assisted or independent community living centers.
A 91-year old woman survived an attempt at smothering her, and told police she knew she was in trouble when she opened her door to the man identified as Chemirmir, wearing rubber gloves.
He was found guilty of capital murder in the death of an 81-year old Lu Thi Harris of Dallas back in April.
He was sentenced to life without parole. If convicted in Brooks’ death, Chemirmir will face the same punishment.
Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot has decided not to seek the death penalty.
Collin County prosecutors are sitting on nine capital murder cases against Chemirmir as well.
