Southwest Is Eliminating Expiration Dates For Flight Credits

(WBAP/KLIF) — Expiration dates for Southwest Airlines flight credits are disappearing.

The Dallas-based airline announced the policy change, Thursday, to allow customers to use flight credits without fear of losing them. Southwest CEO Bob Jordan says, “flight credits don’t expire aligns with the boldness of a philosophy to give our customers definitive simplicity and ease in travel”. Customers will see a placeholder expiration date of December 31st, 2040, until the technology system upgrades permanently remove the date.

Jordan says that the new policy follows other pioneering moves such as bags fly free, no change fees, and points don’t expire, which all sets Southwest apart in the industry. According to WFAA, other changes coming to Southwest include the enhancement of wifi, new in-seat power options, larger overhead bins, and new self-service capabilities.
