Uvalde CISD Superintendent Recommends District Police Chief Pete Arredondo Be Fired

UVALDE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – In the midst of ongoing backlash over the police response to the massacre at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, school Superintendent Hal Harrell has recommended that embattled district Police Chief Pete Arredondo be fired.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District will consider the move on Saturday, July 23.

The development comes amid weeks of outrage from the families of the victims as well as criticism from law enforcement agencies since 19 children and two teachers were killed on May 24th.

Arredondo was placed on paid administrative leave last month. He also resigned from a recently won seat on the Uvalde City Council.

Arredondo is one of several police commanders on scene who were met with fierce criticism in a 77-page report released on Sunday by the Texas House committee investigating the police response.

The report highlighted that although there were 376 law enforcement officers on the scene, it took more than an hour to confront the gunman.

It also found there was no clear command, lots of confusion and false claims that some officers were inside the school negotiating with the shooter.

The gunman was finally killed by Border Patrol agents.

The meeting will be held in the Benson Board Room at 9 a.m.

According to the meeting’s agenda, there will be time for comments from the public.
