NTX Health Officials say Covid-19 Hospitalizations Appear to be Leveling Off

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- According to health officials, North Texas Covid-19 hospitalizations appear to be leveling off from the latest surge.

The North Texas Medical Society Coalition reports the amount of new positive COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals is declining.

On Sunday, Texas reported 111 pediatric COVID-19 patients in North Texas, a slight decrease form last week’s all time high of 131 North Texas Pediatric COVID patients.

Dr. John Flores is the Chairman of the North Texas Medical Society Coalition. He said although its encouraging to see case numbers go down, hospitals are still facing challenges.

“It’s like your running a marathon where you are running at your fastest pace and when we say leveling off, you continue to run at your fastest pace,” said Flores. “All the patients that have Covid in the hospitals are utilizing most of the resources that our hospitals have to offer so its still causing a huge strain on our healthcare professionals,” he said.

Flores said the main concern are from those who are unvaccinated.

“The fact that the numbers are going down makes us optimistic but the large percentage of people in the U.S. and in North Texas who are unvaccinated gives the opportunity for another variant to arise and that’s what we’re really concerned about,” he said.

Flores reminds North Texans to stay vigilant, get vaccinated and wear a mask when necessary. He said it’s important not to be judgmental, answer questions and educate those who are still hesitant about the vaccine.

“My patients ask me ‘well it hasn’t been out long how can I trust it?’ and I assure them that its the safest vaccine that’s ever been made, yes it was made quickly, but it’s been thoroughly tested since then, it’s now approved by the FDA and its effectiveness is unparalleled,” said Flores.

He said working together and getting the vaccine is the best way to help us get back to normal.
