RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF) – More North Texas school districts announced plans on Monday to offer virtual learning for students under 12 who aren’t eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccines.
Richardson ISD and Plano ISD join Frisco ISD in offering a virtual learning option for students in early learning through 6th grade.
“Until a vaccine is widely available for people under age 12, RISD is temporarily offering a virtual classroom option for elementary students in grades kindergarten through 6,” said RISD Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Stone. “The window for elementary parents to select the virtual classroom option will open at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 10, and close at noon on Friday, August 13.”
Masks are optional at Richardson ISD, but strongly encouraged for students and staff.
Plano ISD will offer a parent-led temporary virtual option at the start of the 2021-22 school year for parents who are seeking an alternative to in-person learning.
“The Plano ISD Parent-Led Temporary Virtual Option is a remote, asynchronous learning experience where students engage in learning materials from home,” the district said in a statement.
Plano ISD officials said the the temporary learning solution allows students to engage in asynchronous learning utilizing Plano ISD instructional resources in pre-kindergarten through 6th grade.
