PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – Plano Fire–Rescue fire investigators said Tuesday that they have determined the probable cause of Monday’s house explosion to be an isolated gas leak within the home at 4429 Cleveland Drive.
According to Plano Fire-Rescue, at 4:40 p.m. on Monday, Plano’s 911 Dispatch received multiple calls reporting an explosion at a home with callers stating the home was “completely gone.” First arriving crews confirmed the one story home was entirely destroyed and a search group was formed to locate and rescue any persons within the rubble. One resident was found, extricated and transported to Medical City Plano.
The homes on both sides of the exploded home sustained extreme structural damage.
“The only god thing is that I met neighbors after leaving here for 13 years,” said a man who lives two doors down from the home that exploded. “it’s brought us together as a community.”
Two adults from the home directly to the west were transported to Medical City Plano and three children were transported to Children’s Medical Center Plano. The lone resident of the home directly to the east was not injured. Plano’s Fire Marshal states the explosion was most likely caused by a gas leak inside the house but further investigation will be necessary to determine exactly where the gas leak was located within the home.
The Fire Marshal has emphasized that the leak was isolated to the home at 4429 Cleveland Drive and no other homes are in danger.
Plano Police Department, along with the ATF and FBI, were on scene early in the investigation and determined, with the assistance of an explosive detection canine, that there was no hazardous materials or explosives involved and the home was not a crime scene.
