Teach For America DFW’s newest teachers will lead virtual KIPP Texas classrooms under the supervision of experienced educators. This training program will provide the opportunity for Teach For America DFW teachers to work alongside KIPP students, families and educators and immerse themselves in the DFW community. The program is also being replicated this summer with teachers and mentors throughout other regions in Texas, including in Austin, Houston and San Antonio.
“We are excited about this partnership and look forward to providing new educators with the tools, mentors, and hands-on experience they’ll need to launch their career,” said Dayna Sanders, KIPP Texas’ Deputy Chief of Academics.
This partnership with KIPP Texas Public Schools is just one aspect of the training new Teach For America DFW educators receive prior to the start of the school year and their educational career. Emerging from Teach For America’s inaugural Virtual Summer Teacher Training during Summer 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program prepares Teach For America DFW teachers to lead rigorous, supportive, and inclusive classrooms both virtually and in-person.
“Through our partnership with local schools, our newest teachers have the opportunity to learn from veteran teachers and to support students as they proactively address unfinished learning and prepare for their next school year,” said Shelly Zackrie, Director of Programming at Teach For America. “Teach For America and KIPP share a longstanding commitment to helping students who are growing up in Texas’s historically marginalized communities overcome the systemic barriers to an excellent education, and are grateful to have that orientation underpinning our partnership.”
Teach For America DFW is creating a monumental impact in education across the region. The organization has reached over 400,000 students in 3,400 classrooms throughout the metroplex to date. In the 2020-2021 school year alone, Teach For America DFW served 75,000 students.
