SAN FRANCISCO (WBAP/KLIF News) – Facebook will continue it’s ban on former President Trump’s account for now, following a decision by its independent oversight board on Wednesday.
Trump was suspended from the social media platform over posts made surrounding the deadly January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol which violated Facebook’s rules.
Oversight Board Member Helle Thorning-Schmidt said Facebook also bears some responsibility for the riots and must tell the public the extent of that role.
“Facebook should publish a full report on its potential contribution to the narrative of election fraud and the political tension that led to the events of January 6. When Facebook’s platforms have been abused by influential users in a way that results in serious human rights impact it should conduct a thorough investigation into what role it played and what change could help prevent future situations like this,” she said.
The board ordered Facebook to review its decision within six months. Trump has been permanently banned from Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
He’s been releasing recent statements via email and said to be working on developing a platform.
