Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Officials in North Texas’ largest counties have asked the state for more COVID-19 vaccines
In comments to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Editorial Board, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins and Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley were critical of getting fewer doses from the state for the general population due to FEMA’s efforts to vaccinate vulnerable communities.
Jenkins says the state should tell the feds to provide the vaccine and “get out of the way;” Whitley says that county governments have “become ping pong balls in this whole thing.”
Meantime, state health officials say they try to allocate doses based on population, but that Texas received 30% fewer doses this week because of FEMA’s efforts.
Judge Whitely also said that the state should just give counties the shots and they’ll “get them into people’s arms.” Judge Jenkins concurred.
