WYLIE (WBAP/KLIF)- The Texas Rangers is investigating an officer involved shooting in Wylie Wednesday.

Wylie police say while responding to an unrelated traffic stop, an officer saw a truck had crashed into a CVS building and noticed a woman who was severely injured and laying on the parking lot ground next to a man holding a rifle.

Wylie Sergeant Donald English said the officer, who is a 7 year veteran of the department, went to help the injured woman and when the suspect didn’t listen, the officer fired shots at him.

“Believing that the suspect has caused the injuries to the female, the officer began giving commands to the suspect, the suspect wasn’t adhering to the commands and the officer who wanted to render aid to the the victim who was still breathing at the time, fired an unknown amount of shots at him,” said English.

English said the victim and suspect didn’t make it and were pronounced dead on scene.

“The officer that was involved in the shooting has been out on administrative leave pending the investigation,” said English.
The woman’s cause of death is also under investigation.
