DALLAS (WBAPKLIF)- There’s a critical need for blood donations in North Texas.
Linda Goelzer with Carter BloodCare said during the winter storms, they had to close for 4 days which made it even worse.
“Our current limited blood supply is a grim result of the weather developments of the past week but this is topping off a year-long pandemic that has caused a shortage like we’ve never seen before,” said Goelzer.
Goelzer said the need for blood donations is at an all time high and healthcare workers are stepping up to host pop up locations and donate.
She urges anyone able to give blood, to book an appointment or walk in to a Carter BloodCare facility
“Those who are healthy and well, or have the ability to donate blood, please do so. Our hospitals are struggling,” she said.
If you’ve had the Covid-19 vaccine, you can still donate blood.
Visit the website carterbloodcare.org to find the blood donation centers that are open near you.
A donation made on Thursday could be ready for a patient as soon as the next day. Walk-ins are welcomed, but donors may also text 800-366-2834 for appointments.
