ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The City of Arlington asked residents to conserve water usage in their homes and businesses to only essential purposes Wednesday.
Officials made the request after Arlington Water Utilities reported seeing an unprecedented demand on its water distribution system over the past 24 hours as residents remain home bound amid the severe winter storm.
The city also dispelled rumors in the community and social media about tap water availability.
It’s caused some residents to unnecessarily fill bathtubs and buckets to have water on hand.
Officials said it has no plans to interrupt water service to customers.
Arlington is not currently under a boil water order and officials want to keep it that way.
City officials said system pressure changes caused by excessive water demand could result in boil order notice to part of the community if guidelines set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are not maintained.
They are advising resident to keep faucets dripping to keep pipes from freezing but other water uses such as laundry or running the dishwasher should be put on hold for now.
