Texas Motor Speedway Revs Back Up as COVID-19 Vaccine Site

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Motor Speedway is again serving as a Denton County COVID-19 vaccination mega-hub after more than 27,000 were vaccinated at the facility last week.

This week’s vaccination program begins Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and continues Thursday and Friday, weather permitting, with more than 22,000 first and second doses available by appointment only.
According to Denton County Public Health, last week a total of 27,070 doses were administered over three days via a 16-lane drive-through program where residents remained in their vehicles as they passed through a series of tents to receive Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines from Denton County Public Health.
TMS President Eddie Gossage said that site is averaging at least 1,000 shots per day but could easily ramp that number up when vaccine becomes more accessible.
“We could easily do 5,000 or 6,000 vaccinations an hour,” said Gossage. “Just by simply utilizing all the various parking lots that we have.”
The vaccinations are by appointment only through the Denton County Vaccine Interest Portal at DentonCounty.gov/COVID19vaccine. Individuals with appointments have already received or will receive emails and texts with QR codes for the upcoming clinics.
“The more of these mega sites there are, the quicker we’re going to get past COVID,” insisted Gossage. So, this is something that we are proud of.”
Message boards and directional signs will guide all registered recipients through the complex to the vaccination drive-through clinic located at 2401 Petty Place on Texas Motor Speedway property.
Volunteers also are needed for future clinics. Anyone interested should join the Medical Reserve Corps HERE. Each volunteer will receive a one-hour online training course and undergo a background check.
