TABC Suspends Liquor License for Fort Worth Bar Over not following CDC Guidelines

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission  has suspended the liquor license for Varsity Tavern, a bar in the West 7th District.
Chris Porter with the TABC said during a routine inspection Thursday, the TABC found the bar was well over capacity and employees and customers weren’t wearing masks or complying with social distancing guidelines.

He said usually they issue warnings first but with a case like this, they had to go right ahead with an emergency order.

“In this case, what we found was the crowd inside the businesses as extremely large…they were well beyond the 50% capacity that the Governor has in place for restaurants in Tarrant County so because of that we went with an emergency suspension,” said Porter.

The bar’s website says that masks are required and staff members are required to disinfect surfaces between visits.

Varsity Tavern officials did not respond for comment. The bar appeared to be closed for the time being.
